OMM Meeting Recap 9/7/2010

Posted by Dan Dilbeck on Sep 9, 2010 in Meeting Notes | Comments Off

OMM Meeting Recap for September 7, 2010

The charter party was a great success and we had a lot of positive feedback from our visitors.  Thanks again to Kim Scott and her helpers for a wonderful meal.

Optimist Miracle Movers is going to be copyrighting/trademarking our name.  John Reel is investigating the process for this and Matt Weaver and Derek Clay will take it over from there.

The newly formed Fishers Optimist Club has expressed interest in partnering with us for diferent events.  We will be in contact with them to discuss this further.

The second Bowling event is coming up at the end of this month on the 25th at Brownsburg Bowl.  Kim Scott will be in charge of this again.  Time to be announced but it will be at 11a or 1p.  As soon as that time is announced the flyer will be sent out to everyone.  Michelle Biagioni will be passing them out in the Brownsburg Schools while Traci Kurmay will be hitting up Avon Schools, Theraplay and Easter Seals.

October 17th, Matt Weaver will be having another Golf Clinic at Deer Creek Golf Course.  The time will be 1p.  Due to not wanting to overwhelm places with flyers we will be including this information as well as soccer information on the bowling flyer.

A lot of dates were thrown back and forth for soccer.  Ann Marie has been diligently working on getting us locations to hold soccer clinics and Eddie Black has offered his time to help coach.  These two will be working together to put toghether a clinic some time in November.  They will set the dates, times and locations and let us know next month.

The Miracle Field will not be completed by spring so we are still looking at using the fields at Hummel Park for softball this coming year.  Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) will be taking over those fields so we will need to work with them on getting our dates set.  These will need to be discussed soon.

Matt Weaver is planning fishing for this spring, most likely to be held at Bradford Woods.  He is right now looking into all of the details such as: equipment, licenses, waivers, etc.  He will be reporting all of this back to us in the coming months.

Mike Woodard has offered to talk to the owner, Kevin, of Hoosier Gymnastics to see about using space within their building for gymnastics.  This could open the door for other uses as well.  We look forward to hearing back from Mike on this.

Angela McKee is working on drafting a general sponsor letter.  As soon as this is completed Michelle Biagioni will be sending those out to possible sponsors.  Anyone that has a person or company that they feel should receive one of these letters please send the names and addresses to Michelle at mishabiag@aol.com.

Tracy Fowler is working on our logo and will have that to us shortly.  It will be a combination of the three logos that were submitted to us.  Those three that submitted will all receive a tee shirt with our new logo once it is done.

Quaker Day Parade is October 2nd at 10a.  It was decided that OMM will be participating in the parade.  Michelle Biagioni and Traci Kurmay will be heading up the preparations and execution of that day.  Traci is providing the truck and Angela McKee is working on securing a trailer for use that day.  Jackie Parrish will be ordering beads and candy to be handed out during the parade.  Invitations to participate will be going to all past OMM participants and buddies.  (Robin, I know you left before this was discussed but could you please send out an email invitation to all of our buddies since you have that contact list?  Thanks!)

Lastly, the next OMM meeting will be back to the second Tuesday of the month, October 12th at 7p.  It will be at our normal location of the Community Center at Hummel Park.  Agenda will be next year’s schedule.  Hope to see you all there!

We Have A Name

Posted by Dan Dilbeck on Apr 14, 2010 in Meeting Notes | 0 comments

We have a name! We are the Optimist Miracle Movers. This is an exciting opportunity before us! Please see below for a recap of our most recent meeting as well as a description and invitation to our next meetings and our club.

Optimist Miracle Movers Meeting 4/13/10:

At a meeting on 4/06/10 in interest was brought about to create a Single Purpose Optimist Club to serve Hendricks County but open to all of Central Indiana with the goal of establishing continuous sporting leagues/activities for special needs individuals. We are now to the point of attempting to charter this new club. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 7pm in the Community Center at Hummel Park in Plainfield, IN. With an additional meeting set for April 27th. This meeting will also be held at the Community Center at Hummel Park at 7pm.

We need at least 35 new members to start our club. The purpose of the next meeting will be to work towards meeting all requirements to sanction our club and to begin planning our missions. Our goal is to meet the new member requirement and sanction our club at the April 27, 2010 meeting. We must have at least 60% of new members in attendance at the meeting that evening, have dues paid, have elected officers as well as board members. We have selected a temporary Chairperson, Jackie Parrish, and a temporary Secretary/Treasurer, Melissa Dickinson , until we can hold elections. An interest form for officers and board members was sent around at this evenings meeting.

Optimist International charges a one time organization fee of $400 plus $1 for every new initial member. This must be paid in order to sanction our club. The good news is that we have secured a donation for this amount and therefore it would not be a stumbling block for us in this endeavor. New members will be charged a one time minimal fee to become a new member. This fee was established at $30.00. This must be paid in full by all of our initial members in order to sanction. Annual dues would then be charged to individuals quarterly, (Oct. 1st, Jan. 1st, April 1st and July 1st), and will be a total of approximately $72/year for each individual.

After we are official we will be taking logo options from anyone interested in submitting their ideas. We would like to see submissions from children and special needs friends as well. For the time being we are adopting the Optimist International logo. We will also be adopting their mission statement which reads, “By providing hope and positive vision through the members of this Club, this Club will bring out the best in kids/children.”

Though no definite league plans were made at this meeting, we did set dates for Optimist Miracle Movers Exhibition Games in May. These softball games will be on Friday, May 21st at 6:30pm and another game Saturday, May 22nd at 9:30am. The purpose of these games will be as an introduction to our club and it’s new programs that will be offered for our special needs friends. Being that these will be exhibition games we will only be accepting the first twenty registered for the Friday night game and the first twenty registered for the Saturday morning game.

It is our wish that we make leagues and programs FREE to all participants. This makes it pertinent that we get as many members as we can so that we have the funds to make this all possible.

Wouldn’t you like to be a part of something that gives these individuals a chance to feel normal and make a big difference in their lives? If you are interested in joining our new venture please come to our next meeting. Feel free to invite anyone that you may think would like to join as well. If you have any questions about our club or our vision please ask the person who sent this to you. We hope to see you at our next meeting.
Thanks Jackie
